The Use of Minor Versus Major Caliber Pistols During United States Practical shooting Association Competition

In United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) competitions, each competitor has to choose whether to engage a minor or major caliber firearm in the contest. While a minor caliber gun will give the shooter the advantage of superior handling, the USPSA imposes more stringent point penalties for someone using a minor caliber than for someone using major caliber pistol. This paper analyses whether the minor or major caliber user will have the competitive edge by comparing the data collected from four competitors completing multiple standardized USPSA classifiers.
