Whoever Has the Gift

Ever since the earliest days of Christianity, the role for women in the Church has been a matter of hot debate that even today has yet to be resolved. However, there has been a shift in the way a woman’s role is defined with the help of laborers like Macrina, Hildegard von Bingen, Catherine Mumford Booth, Catherine Bramwell Booth and Aimee Semple McPherson in the white fields of ministry. We will be exploring each of these women and how they have contributed to a question we have been trying to answer for many years: should women be allowed to preach and lead in pastoral ministry?

Why the West has Won

My presentation is on the debate of why the west has been able to show dominance over the rest of the world since its true formation. I will specifically look at the two top arguments which are cultural based reasons, or geographical determination. While both seem to play a role, there is an argument for how much impact each has had.

Dramas and Women’s Rights

This essay looks into the relationship between the arguments made by the leading activists of the women’s rights movement and three literary plays: Euripides’ “Medea,” Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House,” and Glaspell’s “Trifles.” Though not all of these authors were aiming to contribute to this agenda, this study’s purpose is to explore the support that these stories and characters offer to the ongoing discussion. These dramas span hundreds of years and encompass several cultures, and seem to directly embody these feminist ideas, and allow modern audiences to trace feminist ideology forward to the continuing fight for equality even in present times.

Marie Antoinette: Innocent Victim of the French Revolution

My goal is to show how propaganda mixed with failing economics, and royalists hatred towards Marie’s Austrian heritage created a false version of the Queen used to unite the French people and bring about the Revolution, thus creating a victim out of Marie.

Discovering Cambodia: Decolonization, the Khmer Rouge, and the Effects on Human Trafficking Today

After going to Cambodia this last summer with NCU missions, I was challenged to make Cambodian history known to the West where it is rarely talked about. This presentation seeks to examine the recent history of Cambodia from the formation of the French Protectorate to the end of the terrible reign of the Khmer Rouge and how this historical cycle of decolonization has lead to the sex trafficking trade in Cambodia today. By examining key primary and secondary sources, this paper will briefly explain the recent history of Cambodia and finally, it will assess the current facts on sex-trafficking in Cambodia and how Cambodia found herself in her current situation with this social injustice.

The United States Involvement in Chile: the Undermining of Salvador Allende

In the 1970s, Chile democratically elected a socialist leader. However, outside sources, i.e. the United States, did not like the outcome of the election and did everything in their power to overthrow Salvador Allende. The purpose is to show how involved the U.S. truly was in the overthrow.
