Love Changes Everything
The way God loves is
set apart from any other kind of love, and this is important to
understand the love God has for us and how this transforms lives. In
this word study, we will be analyzing the different words for “love” in
the Greek language. We will be seeking to define and look at the
individual usage of the words ερως, ἄστοργος, φιλέω, and ἀγάπη. Using multiple different Greek dictionaries as well as examples from the Bible (NASB), we are able to make conclusions about the meaning of the words. Specifically, we will examine and discuss the difference between ἀγάπη and φιλέω, the two most common words for love in the scriptures. By the context in which words are used, we are able to
understand what they mean, and their significance. It’s important to
understand the different meanings because the word itself and the action
of love can be expressed in a multitude of different ways.
