Inside the Human Body

In this unit of study, students will expand their knowledge about human body systems and how they work. During the course of this unit of study students will learn the basic parts of these systems: skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, nervous, and digestive. Students will be involved in this unit for up to three weeks. At the conclusion of the units students should be able to understand the basic concepts of human body systems and how they work together.

Verbal, Nonverbal and Supportive: Displays of Affection in Romantic Relationships

The purpose of this research study is to gain understanding in the perceptions of affections displayed in dating and married relationships. Furthermore, this study is an attempt to discover whether certain displays, or the totality of displays of affection, are more prevalent in dating or in married relationships. The Affectionate Communication Index (ACI) is the testing instrument used in this study. The results from the study show significantly recognizable patterns based on the question asked to the dating or married couples.

The Silence of Miscarriage Loss

A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy at 20-weeks of pregnancy or sooner. This type of loss is painful and real. This type of loss is legitimate. This type of loss is marginalized by social groups we belong to (i.e. churches and clubs), family and friends, and the medical community. I will be examining the importance of the role that each of these groups plays in the grief process. Through a survey, I will also be documenting and bringing to light some of the associated negative feelings women go through with this type of loss drawing a comparison to the “5-stages of grief” Kubler-Ross model. There is silence surrounding this issue that is deafening to the women who go through it.

GAAP vs IFRS

Our group will be analyzing the differences between IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). The reason these differences are important is because GAAP is used by US based companies while IFRS is used by most other developed nations. The governing bodies of GAAP and IFRS are tying to combine their standards in order to create a simpler, more streamlined standard that is in use globally. This combination will affect every US-based business and needs to be analyzed, which is what we hope to do.

Sleep Patterns Among College Students

College students do not get enough sleep due to hectic schedules. This presentation will explore empirical findings of sleep patterns among college students as well as the consequences of lack of sleep and benefits of proper amounts of sleep. The relationship between sleep, GPA, health, and energy levels will be addressed. The importance of and the effects of sleep will be discussed to increase awareness for college students. Suggestions will be offered for good sleep hygiene and a healthy lifestyle for the college aged student.

Should NCU Have a Cheerleading Squad?

For this project the goal is to illustrate if the NCU student population would be in favor of having a cheerleading squad for the school. The aim is to use demographics of gender and grade to display the results. Surveys will be voluntarily taken during different classes all occurring at the same time to avoid repeat results. The results will be displayed in several different ways emphasizing the different demographics.

Student Use of NCU’s Kellenberger Library Over a Defined Period of Time

I chose to study the number of students that use the Kellenberger Library over a period of time. I intend to focus on seeing if there is a large influx of student use as we approach final exams. During my daily shift as a student worker I collected the data needed for my project and also noted if the patron was a traditional undergraduate student or a graduate student. I will continue to track the number of students up through the first week of December. Once my data has been collected I will analyze it to see if there are any noticeable trends.

The Relationship Between Medial Plica and Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Medial plica syndrome is a sports injury that affects a relatively small population and is therefore not very well known or researched. Medial Plica is extra tissue in the knee which changes shape with flexion and extension. The pain comes from the friction between the tissue and the bone articulations. This review attempts to analyze the relationship between patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS), an overuse injury, and medial plica of the knee. Both sport injuries were researched extensively. Historically, no direct relationship has been established between the two. Six original research articles were chosen and it was concluded that there is a strong relationship between PFPS and medial plica.

The Relationship Between Eating Habits and the Effects on the Body

I will be conducting a research project on my personal eating habits and the effects it has on my body. I will be the only person in the particular research project. The data will be collected over one week and will look into: (1) did I eat breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner; (2) how many times a day I ate; (3) how much in ounces did I drink; (4)what did I drink; (5) if I skipped a meal, what was the reason for not eating; and (6) what affects all of this has on my body and my brain.

Living a Life of Forgiveness

At the end of what is commonly referred to as the “Lord’s Prayer” in Matthew 6:9-13 the Lord furthers instructs His disciples about the importance of forgiving others, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matt. 6:13-14). The workshop designed for church use, will explore why we need to forgive, what forgiveness is and isn’t, and practicing a lifestyle of forgiveness including forgiving those who may have already passed on.

5 year old Case Study-Observing Development

This paper aims to provide insight on the maturation of children during the pre-operational stage of development. This is a case study of a five year old boy who I have seen grow throughout his life from my viewpoint as his baby-sitter and tutor. The factors of development discussed in this paper are; cognitive, physical, identity, social, and moral. This case study takes a closer look at how we develop, and poses a few ponderable reasons why we grow to be how we are.

Today, churches have several different ministry models from which they draw from including business, cultural, and institutional. However, the Apostle Paul defined his ministry according to Scripture, and we should do the same. Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Jesus gave us an example of discipleship in which he went and called his disciples, discipled them, and sent them out to do the same. This also should be our model for ministry: go, make disciples, and send out.

Minor Work Sample—Grammar

As a part of the student teaching program of NCU, I created a work sample of twelve lessons that I taught to a fifth grade class. These lessons were part of one grammar unit that introduced conjunctions and compound and complex sentences to the students. Along with each lesson plan and the materials required, my work sample also includes assessments of the students, the standards to be met by the students in each lesson, important information about the school environment, and several pieces of reflection on my own teaching experiences during the work sample.

This paper will show the use of the Gospel of Matthew in the early Christian catechetical writings. Including a focus on the three earliest Christian catechetical works: The “two ways motifs” in the Didache and the Epistle of Barnabas and Irenaeus’ Proof of the Apostolic Preaching.
