This report analyzes data collected on the sleep acquired by college students, specifically NCU undergraduate students. The data collected is a result of research conducted online though Survey Monkey and data collected by other researchers to be used for comparison. The data collected about NCU students will be analyzed next to a national average to see where NCU students fall in comparison. This report will also analyze where NCU students fall in comparison to the amount of sleep needed according to the National Sleep Foundation.

Using Information Technology for Strategic Advantage

Companies can use IT in a variety of different ways. Some choose to use it only for their day to day activities. Others choose to use it for other things in order to gain competitive advantage. These people view IT as a competitive differentiator. They make business strategies using IT. They develop new services and products based on the data that they collect. Their business is shaped by the information they get. This gives the business a major advantage in whatever market it is in. I will talk about how companies can use IT to gain this advantage and I will give brief explanations for some smaller parts that make up this system, including Business Process Reengineering and Virtual Companies.

Retail Link and Supply Chain Management

In an age of advanced technology, businesses across the globe are changing the way they interact with other business partners. Manufacturers and retailers alike are becoming more interdependent upon each other’s success than ever before. Looking at Wal-Mart, one of the largest and most profitable retailers in the United States, a prime example of changes in the supply chain model can be found. Their new project, Retail Link, is their most recent advancement towards completely integrating all members of the supply chain with accurate and up-to-date information. This vast project will ultimately help define future supply chain models.

Math Anxiety

Math is a subject that almost everyone has struggled with in one way or another. Many could say that they get anxiety from just hearing the word. In this study, we will look at math anxiety and the effects it has on student performance. The goal of this research is to find a way to ease the fear that comes from this particular subject and enhance student learning. The research covers timed tests, how you present the test, as well as whether girls or boys have a greater sense of anxiety when it comes to math.

Statistics of the San Diego Chargers

For my project for this Statistics class, I am going to evaluate the statistics of the San Diego Chargers NFL Football team over the past five years. All these statistics will be over a one year period but then I will compare the past five seasons to see the difference and the relation between the statistics of game performance and game outcome. I will evaluate the following statistics: win, loss, ties (outcomes of games); total offensive yards; sacks; field goals; touchdowns; time of possession; interceptions; and playoff appearances.

The 1984 Los Angeles Olympics was the first of the games which women competed in the 400m hurdler race. Previously, women only competed in the 100m hurdles race. For the purpose of this report, data will be analyzed from 1984 to 2012. The Effects of Aerobic Exercise on the Heart

The goal of our study is to find the correlation between physical exercise and the likelihood of heart-related disease. We will be looking at a combination of large-scale comparisons between lifestyle and heart health and personal studies. The personal studies will include cross-sectional data, comparing blood pressure, heart rate, and BMI with representatives of sedentary, moderately active, and extremely active lifestyles. Furthermore, we will collect time series data by tracking the change in heart rate and blood pressure as a person with a classified sedentary lifestyle does a minimum of American Heart Association requirements.

How Much Debt are You in Due to College?

We are going to collect data on the amount of debt that college students have accumulated thus far while in school. In order to be part of our study, the person must be at least a sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate student. This will give us a more accurate number since these students have been in college for at least 3 or more years and will be forced to pay this money back very soon. This is a very important topic for most college students, especially in an election year where higher education and the affordability is a big issue amongst the candidates. It will be a situation many of us will be facing as the economy looks to rebound.

The Winning Edge

For our project, we will determine whether the turnover to shot ratio can determine the outcome of a game. We will obtain our data from the GoBeacons website. We will be using both the men’s and the women’s game stats from all the years available for our data. For each individual game we will determine the number of shots and divide it by the number of turnovers. After obtaining this number, we will constructs a histogram that will show the shape of the distribution. After determining the mean, standard deviation, and median we will conduct a hypothesis test to determine if a certain shot to turnover ratio determines a win.

The Silence of Miscarriage Loss

A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy at 20-weeks of pregnancy or sooner. This type of loss is painful and real. This type of loss is legitimate. This type of loss is marginalized by social groups we belong to (i.e. churches and clubs), family and friends, and the medical community. I will be examining the importance of the role that each of these groups plays in the grief process. Through a survey, I will also be documenting and bringing to light some of the associated negative feelings women go through with this type of loss drawing a comparison to the “5-stages of grief” Kubler-Ross model. There is silence surrounding this issue that is deafening to the women who go through it.

Main Reason for Choosing to Attend NCU

Because I attend this university, I am interested in acquiring information about students that go here. I am interested in finding out why students chose to come to this university in particular (sports, location, scholarships, career choice, religious affiliation, tuition, size of school). I also want to see if there are demographics (age, gender, major, marital status, transportation) which have an influence on this decision.

I chose to study the number of students that use the Kellenberger Library over a period of time. I intend to focus on seeing if there is a large influx of student use as we approach final exams. During my daily shift as a student worker I collected the data needed for my project and also noted if the patron was a traditional undergraduate student or a graduate student. I will continue to track the number of students up through the first week of December. Once my data has been collected I will analyze it to see if there are any noticeable trends.

Study Habits: Time is Money

This project will be based on a survey of students in several lower-level general education courses. Students will consist mostly of college freshmen and sophomores. The study will include questions concerning age, gender, high school GPA, current GPA (if known), average homework time per week and per class, and a self-evaluation of efficiency as a student overall (scale 1-9). It will seek to confirm (with 95% confidence) the hypothesis that there is a direct correlation between the amount of time a student spends studying outside of class and both their self-efficacy and current (or high school) GPA.
