Saving Today’s Teens from Self-harm

My capstone project is going to be on the importance of helping teenagers that self-harm themselves. I am also going to be backing up my paper by what God says in the Bible about how we should treat our bodies. I am going to be showing the steps and how to understand how young teens start the pattern of “self-harm.” The information is going to show you how and why teens start to injure themselves. These steps will identify in the preventative opportunities to help the teenager who is going through with “self-harm.”

Lactic Acid Fermentation

The focus of this experiment is to investigate the rate at which different sugar solutions will digest and turn acidic the quickest when introduced to the bacterium. The four sugar solutions used consist of glucose, sucrose, lactose, and maltose, along with a positive and negative control group. Within each sugar solution is bacteria (yogurt), base, pH indicator, and KOH. After each solution is made they are placed in an incubator for 48 hours to ferment. The final result of this experiment showed that sucrose was the most active sugar compared to glucose, lactose, or maltose. The negative and positive controls changed as they should have.

Insomnia

Insomnia is defined as having difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep. Sleep deprivation is a huge problem throughout America because without sleep the body doesn’t function as well as it could. Approximately 60 million adults in the United States have this condition. There are three kinds of insomnia: transient, acute, and chronic. Also, there are different patterns of insomnia. Some causes can be from the diet the person is eating, a hormone shift in their body, mental disorders, or some drugs. There are some treatments available to treat insomnia. It is a growing issue in the United States because of how busy our society is and when people can’t sleep they lose performance the next day.

Effects of Fluid Supplementation on Plant Growth

The goal was to study the growth of plants using different drinks (vitamin enriched water, black coffee, and a water protein supplement). We had a positive control and negative control group and three other groups. We did different tests, one that lasted one week and another that lasted two weeks. Both of the control groups died, and out of the three other groups we had, two outlasted the control groups. They were coffee and vitamin water.

Supporting Adult Learners in Higher Education

This capstone project is a literary review of adult learners in higher education. The thesis of this essay is although there have been a variety of recent works on the theory of adult learners and their unique needs in the classroom and required administrative services, much of the thoughts and premises are often too theoretical and therefore often do not address the particular skill sets necessary to meet the current needs of adult learners. The essay and presentation will explore the unique needs of the adult learner while summarizing findings and conclusions.

The Effects of Gender on False Memory

Roediger and McDermot (1995) found that individuals who learned lists of words related in meaning to GIRL and MAN, but did not contain those words, falsely recalled GIRL and MAN. Bauste and Ferraro (2004) found no significant effect of gender on false memory using the DRM lists for GIRL and MAN. The present study used a modified MAN list to reflect more stereotypical gender words as compared to the GIRL list. It was expected that there would be an effect of participant gender on false memory using the modified list.

Non-Pharmaceutical Therapies and Outcomes in Pediatric Depression

Early onset depression has an increased risk of co-morbid disorders and increased risk of depressive episodes in adulthood. After the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) announcement regarding the safety of some SSRI’s in the treatment of child and adolescent patients in relation to a heightened risk of suicide, non-pharmacological treatments and therapies began to be researched as an alternative treatment route. There therapies and treatments include: problem solving therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy, interpersonal therapy, family therapy, and vitamin and nutrient alternatives. The outcomes and practices of these therapies are important to those interested in non-pharmacological treatment options.

Growing Where You’re Planted: How to Embrace a New Community

When a tree is ripped up from the soil it must be quickly transplanted into new soil to keep from going into shock and dying; how much more do people who are relocating need to preserve their life by laying roots in a new community. Making friends and getting connected in a new place is essential to becoming an established part of civic engagement. Those two elements of establishment are easy to write but require intentional effort to be actualized. By looking at how the use of interpersonal, organizational, and technological communication expedites a newcomer’s integration, readers will be better informed of how to make a smooth transition if they ever have to embrace a new community.

A Meta-analysis of Negative Social Effects of Self-perception of Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities and Early Identification

Children suffer from many different types of learning disabilities with dyslexia being a main one. Learning disabilities affect children, not only in school, but also in the rest of their lives, though not every child will have a lower self-perception than an average child with no learning disability.  Three questions will be answered throughout this paper in hopes that in the future there will be a way to prevent, reverse, or lessen negative social effects.
